Keenly Ottoman inspired, the Allstar Ayasofya Hotel of 52 rooms occupies a row of 19th century wooden houses. This is a classic Ottoman boutique hotel. All 52 rooms have brass beds. Enjoy a lavish breakfast served in a glass conservatory replete with chandeliers.

Staff friendly and helpful. Hotel very central to main tourist sites, but generally not suitable for people with ambulatory limitations.

The rooms are small and the shower/toilet is even smaller. There is no elevator and there is no swimming pool (both of which should be advertised). Pictures on the Internet are misleading.

I liked Ayasofya because it was part of the local community in a very big fast city.I would come again understanding that it is a three star and as such is very good value.I will be telling friends and colleagues about my stay there.

The breakfast could be more imaginative with some of the local seasonal fruit availabe form the local markets, eg wonderful figs were at the local market when I was there.Perhaps some of the locks on doors and other like facilities could be a little easier to use.The TV was very sporadic and my friend's airconditioner seemed less than friendly.

The room was very comfortable , the helpfull staff and the view from the roof top of the hotel.

The location is excellent, and the staff (especially Bülent) very attentive.

The rooms are charming, but the bathrooms are frankly inadequate. Our shower was not enclosed, and there was no room to place anything in the bathroom. For the price, I expected slightly better installations.

We spent our honeymoon in Istanbul and the Ayasofya was ideal place as it was so close. The owner Gaye had put flowers and wine in our room for us and the staff were very welcoming,

The hotel staff at the reception was excellent, very professional and welcoming.

The hotel and rooms were very very clean and all staff were very helpful and friendly, including the reception responsible, who was always willing to provide information about anything I needed. The English of the reception responsible was also very good, which is quite important! The reason I picked this hotel was because it has a terrace, with a decent view of the water side (not perfect, but satisfactory). I was not disappointed! Although the terrace was not officially open we were able to go up and enjoy the view, and even order a drink up there. Overall, this hotel was very good value for money. I think one of the best dinners I had was the night I felt too tired to go out and ordered in - the food was perfect and although it was take-in (from a local restaurant), it was served to me by the hotel staff on plates, silverware, etc.! (Talk about pampering!)

I was not able to have a smoking room (although I had selected this when I booked). However this was not necessarily a bad thing because I was able to smoke on the terrace! Also, I was not very fond of the fact that there is some uphill climbing when I ventured out in the morning (although of course downhill upon my return!) This can be alleviated though by taking a short taxi trip in the morning to the tram or to a nearby tourist attraction. Also I would have preferred being a little closer to more cafes and restaurants, although there were some in the area, I just would have preferred more within a shorter walking distance (on level ground!). Some reviews I had read stated the rooms were a bit small, this is true for the standard rooms (I did not see the deluxe or apartments) however this is made up for in cleanliness, comfortable beds, and good service.

    • Family with children

We stayed in one of the Ayasofya apartments. It was very comfortable for our family and had a great view of the sea.

    • Couple
      3.2

Just few minutes walk away from Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia, TopKapi and grand Bazar.

Very old, very small and extremely loud. The bathrooms are connected so you can hear everything which is going on in the neighbour's bathroom. Terrible place. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone.

    • Older travelers
      7.0

The owner welcomed you and was always available to answer questions and give you sites to visit recommendations.

The bathroom shower was small and hard to take a shower without getting the rest of the bathroom wet.

    • Couple
      3.2

Ants in an apartment (rooms and apartments available)!!! Tiny rooms @95eur/night! Slance backstreet location! No fresh soap, caps, cumbs, etc in bathrooms! No cold water in fridge! Torn fresh towels in rooms! No lift to upstair rooms! Ac varely operating in rooms! This is a two star hotel maximum instead of the advertised four!

    • Older travelers
      9.6

Lovely old building beautifully renovated. Very friendly family run hotel. Beautiful location with stunning views and close to the ancient sights. Generous and varied breakfast.Interesting wine cellar and good value wines to drink. Overall a great place to stay and we wish we had booked for longer.

A couple of very small niggles only. The pillows on the bed were not very good quality and made me sweat in the heat. The coffee at breakfast was Nescafe unless you pay extra. I realise this is common in Turkey, but for a "boutique" hotel it does not set the right tone.

    • Older travelers
      7.4

The helpfulness of the owner and staff generally. Its closeness to major attractions.

The hotel itself is fine but we were initially put into an annexe 200 yards away then another 100 yards away and eventually into the hotel itself. Both annexes were not of the standard we expected.

    • Single

I Loved the attention recived from the staff, specially the front door worker.

The staff responsable for the restaurant service need to learn english.

    • Older travelers
      7.8

Lovely atmosphere. Staff very friendly and helpful. Very personal and happy. Good local advice provided. Nice central position, though a steep climb up a hill to reach main sites - beware those who like level walking! Good plentiful breakfast constantly refilled. Clean and tidy. Air conditioning worked well in bedroom and breakfast room (often not the case in hotels I've frequented, but essential for survival in Istanbul in July).

Room very small - but we expected that so not a complaint. Room not cleaned two days in a row so we had to ask at the desk for this to be done when we returned late afternoon/early evening. They obliged, but it was a bit of a nuisance. Hotel hard to find initially - a detailed map would be good. A noisy family in the next room - not the hotel's fault, but not conducive to rest!
